August 15, 2025, was a truly special day for the parishioners of Holy Cross Church, Silchar. While the rest of the country was celebrating Independence Day, our community came together to honour a different kind of freedom—the spiritual freedom and grace embodied by the Blessed Virgin Mary. This year’s “Mariam Procession” was a beautiful fusion of faith, tradition and joyful community spirit.
The evening began promptly at 6:15 PM with the soulful recitation of the Rosary. The air was filled with a sense of peace and reverence as the Rosary procession, led with grace and devotion by the Bethany Sisters, made its way through the church grounds. Their gentle guidance set the perfect tone for the evening’s spiritual journey, reminding us all of the power of prayer and contemplation. created an ideal environment for a spiritual journey, and reminded us all of the power of prayer and reflection.
After the procession, we entered the main church for the Holy Mass. The liturgy was elevated by the sweet and heartfelt contribution of the Sisters of Charity. Their presence and beautiful singing added a deep level of seriousness and devotion to the Mass, making the sacred rites even more touching and emotional.
One of the highlights of the evening was the special blessing of the new door of the church. We were honoured to have Bishop Joachim, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Aizawl, with us to officiate at this important ceremony. The new door that has now been sanctified is not only a physical entrance but also a symbolic entrance into the house of God, signifying new beginnings and new beginnings for all who enter. symbolising a welcoming embrace. Bishop Joachim’s presence and blessing were a wonderful source of encouragement and a reminder of the unity of the wider Catholic Church.
After the Holy Mass was over, the spiritual celebration turned into a communion feast. This communion, which is celebrated after many important events in our parish, The go-to is a traditional meal, a wonderful opportunity to break bread together, share laughter and reconnect with fellow parishioners.
The 2025 Mariam Procession was not just an event; it was an experience. It was a night that beautifully wove together prayer, tradition, and the deep sense of family that characterizes our parish. A sincere thanks to our Parish Priest Rev. Fr Jesu Kumar and Asst. Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Clement Halam for organizing this Mariam Procession. We also thanked the women society and youth for preparing the tasty food for all of us. We are deeply grateful to the Bethany Sisters and the Sisters of Charity for their spiritual leadership, to Bishop Joachim for his blessing, and to every member of the community who contributed to making this night so memorable.
May the blessings of the Blessed Mother continue to be upon our Holy Cross Church community.
