It is with deep sadness that we report the sudden demise of Mr. Sanjay Tigga, the elder brother of Fr. Surjit Tigga, SDB, the Principal of Don Bosco School, Silchar. Mr. Sanjay breathed his last on the morning of 10th September 2024 at 11:00 a.m., after a prolonged and valiant battle with cancer, which he had been diagnosed with a few months ago. He had been receiving treatment for his illness, and for the past week, he was residing at the Don Bosco Silchar Community to continue his treatment.
On the evening of 9th September, Mr. Sanjay suddenly developed breathing difficulties and was rushed to Green Heals Hospital. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, his condition rapidly deteriorated, and he tragically passed away at 11:00 a.m. His death has brought immense sorrow to F. Surjit, his family and all who knew him. Our heartfelt prayers and condolences go out to Fr. Surjit and the entire bereaved family. May Mr. Sanjay’s soul rest in eternal peace.
In the evening of the same day, at 7:00 p.m., a funeral Requiem Mass was held in the School Auditorium for the repose of Mr. Sanjay’s soul. The Mass was attended by many religious figures, including priests, sisters, school staff, Boscotech staff, hostellers, and confreres from the Don Bosco Silchar Community. Fr. Surjit , despite his grief, was the main celebrant of the Mass. In a moment of great emotion, he struggled at the beginning but eventually found strength and composure.
During the service, Br. Regy sdb, the Director of Boscotech gave a touching summary of Mr. Sanjay’s life and expressed sympathy and condolences to Fr. Surjit and the bereaved family. Fr. Surjit, in a heartfelt moment, thanked everyone for their prayers, gestures of support, and presence during this difficult time.
The mortal remain of Mr. Sanjay was taken to Ranchi of the state of Jharkahnd, his native place early the next morning, around 5:30 a.m. on 12th September 2024, for the final rites and burial. Fr.Surjit, Fr. Kitboklang, Sir Kshiro Sarma and Fr. Surjit’s cousin brother accompanied the mortal remain.
Let us continue to keep Fr. Surjit Tigga sdb and his family in our prayers as they go through this time of profound loss and grief. May God grant them the strength to bear this immense sorrow.
