The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has recently updated its curriculum for Classes 10 and 12, introducing significant reforms aimed at strengthening academics and promoting skill-based education.
What’s New for Class 10?
Students in Class 10 are now required to choose one skill-based subject from the following options:
Computer Applications
Information Technology
Artificial Intelligence
Additionally, students must study either English or Hindi as a language subject, which they can opt for in either Class 9 or Class 10.
In a major academic shift, students who fail in a core subject such as Science, Mathematics, Social Science, or a language, will now be allowed to replace it with a passed skill subject or optional language subject for their final result calculation. This change offers more flexibility and support to students facing challenges in core subjects.
What’s Changing in Class 12?
CBSE has introduced four new skill-based elective subjects for Class 12 students:
Land Transportation Associate
Electronics and Hardware
Physical Activity Trainer
Design Thinking and Innovation
These additions are designed to equip students with practical skills aligned with modern career paths and vocational training.
The updated Class 12 syllabus now includes seven key learning areas:
Languages
Humanities
Mathematics
Sciences
Skill Subjects
General Studies
Health & Physical Education
Updated Grading and Exam Pattern
CBSE has adopted a 9-point grading system for both Class 10 and 12 board exams. Instead of raw marks, students will now receive grades, ensuring a more balanced evaluation process.
From the current academic year onward, Class 10 students will take board exams twice a year, once in February and again in April. This move aims to reduce exam pressure and give students a second chance within the same academic cycle.
Meanwhile, Class 12 board exams will continue to be held once a year, with the 2026 exams scheduled to start on February 17.
